Design is mostly about reducing confusion. In the product, in the handoff, and in the room.

Bio
Stephan Simorka
Sr. UI/UX Designer
I'm a UI/UX Designer based in Brooklyn. Over 14 years, I've worked across product design, design systems, and accessibility, for companies like NBC Sports, Mercer, Chipotle, and early-stage startups.
Most of my work lately sits at the intersection of design systems and product: building the infrastructure that makes design scalable, and making sure it actually gets used. I've built component libraries from scratch, reduced design debt, improved WCAG compliance by 37% for one client, and cut developer handoff friction by 25% at another.
That kind of work requires equal parts craft and collaboration, a lot of whiteboard time with engineers, and a willingness to argue for the right abstraction. Accessibility isn't a checklist I run at the end. It's a constraint I design for from the first token decision.
Outside work, I build things that interest me. Rhythm Machine is a browser-based drum sequencer I designed and built from scratch. Pi AI Hub is a practical guide to running local AI on your own hardware. Both started as personal projects and turned into something I'm proud to show.
If you're working on something that needs to scale, I'd like to hear about it.

Product Design
End-to-end product design for web and mobile, from early problem definition through production-ready specs. I work at the pace of sprints and stay connected to how decisions land in engineering.
Design Systems
Component libraries, token architecture, and governance frameworks that teams actually adopt. I've built systems from zero, scaled inherited ones, and documented both for long-term maintenance.
Accessibility
WCAG 2.1/2.2 audits, inclusive design practices, and accessibility baked into tokens and components from the start, not patched at the end. I've improved ADA compliance by over 37% for clients in regulated industries.
UX Strategy
Problem framing, user flows, and information architecture grounded in how people actually use products. I work closely with product and engineering to clarify what we're solving before we start designing it.
Visual Design
Layout, typography, and visual hierarchy in service of clarity and usability. Not decoration, structure.
BRANDING
Brand strategy, visual identity, and logo design for early-stage companies building from the ground up.
