Welcome

Iā€™m Steph Simorka, a User Interface and Visual Designer based in Brooklyn

My expertise lies in creating user-centered designs. My primary focus is on understanding the needs and preferences of users while providing creative direction to enhance their overall experience. I work closely with product managers and developers to ensure design consistency across all products and design systems. I am a strong advocate for user accessibility and inclusive design principles.

With my background in fine arts, I have gained an advanced understanding of color theory. This knowledge is invaluable in designing UI/UX interfaces that are visually compelling and highly functional. Over the past decade, I have supervised design teams, ensuring brand consistency and design quality excellence.

My free time is spent learning music theory, skateboarding around Brooklyn, and taking photos of urban minutiae. I love to cook with my wife and play overly complicated board games with friends.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES

My design principles revolve around three main aspects: function, thoughtfulness, and flexibility. While visual design is often seen as the "icing on the cake", it is a crucial part of the overall design process. Good design should be intuitive and familiar, making it easy for users to interact with.

I believe in creating purposeful designs that serve a specific need. To achieve this, I use a visual hierarchy that emphasizes important elements through contrast and size. I also believe in keeping the design clean and uncluttered by eliminating any unnecessary visual elements that do not contribute to the overall communication.

Flexibility is also important in design. It's crucial to understand that the "right way" is not always "my way." By aligning with a strategy and having open conversations, we can work together to achieve growth and relevancy. Ultimately, my goal is to help people and organizations achieve their goals through thoughtful and purposeful design.
